Arcane Toolkit of a Bucyrus Computer Repair Technician.

I'm a Computer Repair Technician in Bucyrus and after doing a few jobs I've noticed a pattern. Computer Viruses. Let me say this first: if you have viruses on your computer it's not nessacarily because you are doing something wrong. Hell, I'm a PC Repair Technician and I get viruses. It's nothing to be worried about.

Now I'm writing this primarily for Bucyrus folks but just because you're somewhere else doesn't mean you can't use it. These steps will work for any Windows Computer.

A lot of Bucyrus computer users computer viruses, even with virus protection! It looks like Norton isn't enough to protect you these days. Soak that in for a second. Norton doesn't cut it.

So what should you do?

I'm going to tell you. This is a list compiled in the halls of every American university. It's free and it works. It's my gift to you. So let's begin.

These steps are prioritized:

1. Get virus protection of some kind. It doesn't matter if it's free or paid. Norton is fine. Keep it updated.

2. Download the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. (We have to disable this later but I'll provide info graphics and instructions. It's super easy.)

3. Install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and update it.

4.  Open Malwarebytes and run a quick scan. This will take an hour. Go make some coffee and watch a show.

5. Fix all the problems in the scan by clicking the fix problems button. Follow the instructions. If it asks to restart the computer allow it to restart.

How to Disable Malwarebytes Appendix 1:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will find infections that Norton (or whatever anti-virus) couldn't find. The problem with that is, most computers can't handle the running more than one anti-virus application. So what we need to do is disable Malwarebytes from running automatically in the background. THIS STEP IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. If you do not disable Malwarebytes from starting automatically it will drastically decrease your computers speed.

Anytime you notice the computer acting funny just bust out Malwarebytes and run a scan.

1. Click start.  Paste "msconfig" into the text box and press enter.

2. Click the services tab and check the box at the bottom.

(Check Hide All Microsoft Services)

3. Look for two services owned by Malwarebytes and disable them.

4. Click apply and restart the computer.

Now back to fixing that computer.

6. Download Spybot Anti-Spyware and install it. Update it or it won't work.

7. Run a Spybot scan and go watch some shows. It will take 1.5 hours.

8. Fix all items by clicking the fix now button. Follow the  instructions.

How to Disable Spybot Appendix II: 

As with Malwarebytes, we don't want Spybot running in the background all the time, so we're going to disable it.

A. Click start.  Paste "msconfig" into the text box and press enter.

B. Click the services tab and check the box at the bottom.

(Check Hide All Microsoft Services)

 

C. Look for a service owned by Safer Network Ltd. and disable them. 

D. Click apply and restart the computer.

 

9. Make shortcuts to spybot and malwarebytes on the desktop for easy access.

10. If things get weird update spybot and malwarebytes and scan them back to back.

And there you have it! A 100% free way to keep your computer running smooth and virus free.
